Creativity: The Art of Generosity

Genius is a condition. Wonder is an experience. Beauty is an awakening.

Creativity isn’t just about genius. It’s about generosity. It’s the overflow of love, and here’s why: For God so loved the world that He gave…(John 3:16). Creativity is born out of that same kind of generosity. When we create out of any other motive—pride, ambition, or even for identity—it leads us into a superficial kind of creativity. We end up only touching the surface, influencing on an emotional level, but never reaching the depths of what we’re called to do.

People often get stuck here, searching for self-worth in that emotional, shallow space. But true creativity flows from the supernatural realm, and God, being supernatural, wants to express His love through us in ways that go far deeper.

Creativity isn’t just a product. It’s a process and a partnership. When we partner with the Holy Spirit, the Ruach—the very breath of God—comes into our work. It inspires levels of creativity we couldn’t reach on our own.

Think about the feeling you get standing on a mountaintop, beside the ocean, or overlooking the Connemara coast in Ireland. All you can do is whisper. All you can do is whisper. The beauty, the grandeur—it takes your breath away. And in that moment, God is awakening something in you. Something sacred. It’s the part of you that you’ll carry into the songs and creations of your future. It’s like walking and noticing that all the flowers are leaning in the same direction. You stop and ask, "God, why did you make them do that?" And He begins to tell you.

That’s where creativity comes from—from wonder, beauty, and a deep partnership with God. Every expression of creativity becomes an extension of His love. When you take a moment to yield—to pause and listen—something profound happens. In that stillness, He's speaking. You start to realize that even your day-to-day experiences can shape something beautiful. It might become a lyric or a painting, but it’s more than just art. It’s an expression of who He is, carried from your heart to the world. And He honors that. He takes your creativity and uses it to demonstrate His love to someone else, awakening their creativity in the process.
