Art That Lives Beyond You
Creativity was never meant to be about leaving a legacy. It’s not about outliving your life. It’s about leaving something that someone might need one day.
So the question isn’t, What can I create that will last forever?
The question is, What am I creating right now that’s worth giving away?
“For God so loved the world, that He gave…” (John 3:16). Love and generosity—this is the rhythm of creation itself. Every flower, every ocean wave, every star scattered across the night sky exists because of love and generosity. So why should our art be any different?
Art isn’t effortless. A guitarist struggles over chords. A painter wrestles with light and shadow. A poet fights to find the right words. The struggle is part of the gift. It’s how we refine what we’ve been given so that, in the end, we can offer something worthy of being given away.
Creativity has never been about genius. It has always been about generosity.
And that’s the hardest part—letting it go. Because as artists, we never truly finish our work. Every song we write, every poem we craft, every piece of art we create—it always feels like there’s one more thing we could tweak, one more layer we could add.
But the point of creativity isn’t perfection. It’s generosity.
It’s about getting it to a place where we’re willing to release it, knowing that its impact is no longer in our hands.
And maybe that’s enough.
Maybe that’s the beauty of it.
Because in the end, what we create may not be for today. It may not be for us. It may be for someone who will stumble upon it years from now, at exactly the moment they need it.
So let’s write. Let’s paint. Let’s compose.
Let’s create something worth giving away.
